US Officials in North Korea to Assess the Food Situation
A rare official US delegation is in North Korea to assess the food situation there, suprisingly headed by Ambassador Robert King, the special envoy for North Korean human rights. The State Department officials may also be raising human rights concerns in Pyongyang, but it is also a surprise that North Korean officials accepted King's visit. Nevertheless, upon the findings and recommendations from the delegation, the US may or may not resume its food aid to North Korea, which will impact South Korea's decision on possible resumption of food aid to North Korea. According to the UN report, North Korea is in dire need for food aid this year to ward off famine.
